Exploring the Valley
July 2, the day after Canada Day was a day FULL of Cannabis for me. Unfortunately I didn't have the energy for a smoke by the time I got home but I digress...
The BC Cannabis Stores hiring fair happened at the Penticton Lakeside Resort, so I thought I'd check it out. The line-up was out the door for hours with curious folk looking for a career in the emerging industry. The BC Cannabis Stores are a division of the British Columbia Liquor Distribution Branch in our province, and as such is sole wholesale distributor of Cannabis in the province. Every retail outlet that purchases Cannabis for their shop must purchase it first through the BC LDB.
Even the local news showed up to check out the event. Click here to see the video.
From there I headed north to Lake Country to meet my old pal Roy Robins, whose father is now the landlord for the Indigenous Bloom location in Lake Country. This company currently has 7 locations across Canada with more in development as we speak. They are currently the largest First Nations Cannabis company in Canada and they are heading global.
Indigenous Bloom makes and sells EVERYTHING they carry. "From seed to sale" they grow, manufacture, produce, and sell all the Cannabis products they carry in their shops. And it's all done on First Nations land by First Nations people. It's an incredible opportunity to support the greater First Nations communities with new, exciting jobs the members can be proud of and revenue sharing that will help the communities thrive. I'm really excited to see this business grow in all the communities and I will be supporting the Penticton location when it's open! It's under construction right now so it won't be long! Reviews on the strains I purchased at Indigenous Bloom are coming soon!
I bid Roy farewell and continued north to Vernon for a few exciting stops. First I met up with Eryn from WanderLove Jewelry to pick up the custom ring she made for me. Her beautifully witchy work is awe-inspiring, so when she posted a photo of a couple stones she wanted to work with I claimed them immediately, they called for me with such familiarity I knew we were meant to be! I am so proud to wear this stunning piece. It is made of Hawkseye (top) which encourages empathy, relief of fears and phobias, and enhances clairvoyance. The bottom is Moonstone which embodies the sacred feminine, the power of the Moon and the tides of the ocean. In this chapter of my life the messages in this ring are incredibly powerful and will be a constant reminder of where I've been and how far I've come. Please follow her on Facebook and Instagram and #treatyoself to one of her creations.
One more stop to the newly opened SpiritLeaf Vernon which literally opened it's doors the day before I got there and is officially the first legal Cannabis shop in the Okanagan. It is located a block off from the mall (at 102, 2500 53 Ave) in a gorgeous, modern commercial building. The entrance is located on the backside and has a generous and discreet parking lot.
The franchisee owners did a remarkable job pulling the interior together, all of which husband Carson installed himself. The husband/wife duo who successfully launched the first Okanagan Cannabis shop knew when legalization was approaching that they wanted to get in on the action. Carson's parents are farmers back east and so they looked into the possibility of becoming Licensed Producers. After some time they decided that wasn't the route they wanted to take and started looking at retail franchises as an option.
As soon as they found SpiritLeaf they knew it was everything they were looking for. The next big decision was location and they decided the Okanagan and specifically Vernon was the best choice for them. If you'd like to learn more about the SpiritLeaf franchise please visit their website here. And if you're in or around Vernon, please do yourself a favour and check out this great shop. You can thank me later! Reviews on the strains I purchased here are coming soon!
